The Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is seeking a BC/BE general thoracic surgeon to join the faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The Division currently consists of four faculty members with a scope of practice spanning all aspects of general thoracic surgery exclusive of transplant.
The faculty currently performs approximately 1000 major operations per year at two hospitals, including an extensive experience in VATS, laparoscopy, robotics and EBUS. In addition, the Division has its own Esophageal Diagnostics Laboratory, believed to be among the largest in the country for a surgical department, performing 2500-3000 procedures annually and including upper endoscopy, endoscopic resection/ablation, dilation, stenting, high-resolution manometry, esophageal impedance and pH monitoring.
The Division currently has two full-time clinical research fellows and a basic research enterprise with excellent academic output. We train housestaff from our cardiothoracic fellowship, integrated (I-6) cardiothoracic residency, and surgery residency, all in good standing with their respective RRCs. URMC has well-developed multidisciplinary programs in Thoracic and GI Oncology affiliated with the Wilmot Cancer Institute. The position offers the potential for tremendous growth and support of an aspiring academic surgeon, and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
