Univ. of Misssissippi Medical Center: Thoracic Surgeon

The Division of General Thoracic Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, is actively seeking a surgeon to join our team at the rank of Assistant Professor. We strongly encourage new thoracic tracked graduates to apply. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in contributing to the growth of our clinical and research missions. Proficiency in minimally invasive and robotic skills is a requirement.

Our primary services are provided at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the state’s only academic medical center. Additionally, we offer coverage at two satellite programs, all conveniently located within a mile of each other. The on-call schedule is one in three, with no lung transplant responsibilities.

We pride ourselves on being part of a highly cohesive thoracic oncology team, supported by a robust interventional pulmonary group. As the quaternary care program in Mississippi, we specialize in advanced lung cancer, airway, mediastinal, and esophageal care. Our advanced endoscopic esophageal program includes a high volume of procedures such as POEM, ESD, ablation, and other innovative techniques. Over 90% of our cases are minimally invasive, and robotic access is available at all three institutions.

The successful applicant will benefit from strong mentorship by senior surgeons, a dynamic clinical environment, and opportunities for early programmatic leadership. Additionally, they will have the privilege to train thoracic surgery fellows and general surgery residents. This position is an excellent opportunity for a well-trained academic surgeon seeking clinical challenges, the chance to develop multiple programs, and the opportunity to educate the next generation of thoracic surgeons.

Located in the state capital, the Medical Center in Jackson, MS offers a low cost of living, an excellent quality of life, and all the advantages of being in a vibrant community.
