Upstate Medical University: Thoracic Surgeon

The Division of Thoracic Surgery at SUNY Upstate University Hospital is the premier Thoracic Surgery Program in Central New York. We are currently seeking a motivated, General Thoracic surgeon to join our faculty and assist in the continued growth of our comprehensive, minimally invasive surgical program.

The ideal candidate will be board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery. Training in minimally invasive thoracic surgery with an emphasis on thoracoscopic lung and esophageal surgery is critical. Interest in robotic and endoscopic surgery is preferred. Enthusiasm for teaching fellows, residents and students as well as participation in clinical research is important. The successful candidate will join an established and expanding practice in General Thoracic Surgery, currently made up of two minimally invasive and robotic surgeons, three amazing mid-level providers and two dedicated executive assistants. Our practice is built on a strong foundation of close teamwork with pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, radiation oncology and medical oncology. Clinical responsibility will include practice at Upstate University Hospital, including the Upstate Cancer Center, Syracuse VA Hospital, Crouse Hospital and new regional outreach clinics. With the exception of the planned outreach clinics, these facilities stand immediately adjacent to one another.

SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital and Community Campus combine to form a 750 bed facility that holds a central position as the tertiary referral facility for Central New York. It is the region’s only Level 1 trauma center and only burn center. Upstate has an impressive, modern Cancer Center for ambulatory and multidisciplinary care, including a renowned and long- standing Thoracic Oncology Program (TOP).
